The Importance of Car Maintenance

Posted on August 13th, 2019 by ncapmanage

Regular maintenance is important to keep our cars running safely and efficiently. In Chicago, we offer auto parts that will help your car run properly. Here’s a list of important maintenance checks to do when you bring your car into a shop.

What Needs To Be Checked?

Specific parts of your car should either be checked on a monthly basis or depending on how many miles you’ve driven. Some maintenance checks you should be aware of include:

Tire Pressure & Lights

The tire pressure monitoring system keeps track of the air pressure in each of your car’s tires. When the tire pressure lights go on, that means the pressure is 25 percent lower than the manufacturer’s recommended cold tire pressure.

Air Filter

The recommended time to change your engine’s air filter is between 15,000 and 30,000 miles, depending on your driving conditions. Ideally, if you do not drive a lot, your air filter should be replaced at least every 3 years.

Tires

The tires need to be properly inflated and in good condition at all times because when they are under-inflated, worn out, or damaged, all the safety systems on the vehicle will not overcome the loss of control in a dangerous situation. You should rotate your tires every 5,000 to 7,000 miles and always inspect them if you think you hit something damaging such as a pothole or curb.

Wheel Alignment

Your wheel alignment needs to be in good condition in order to drive safely. If your car pulls to one side of the road or the steering has a weird vibration, the alignment may be off. Go to a trusted auto care shop and ask about getting your wheel alignment checked out.
